As you know, the Wal-Mart is moving to the former Carrolltown Mall site to become a Super Wal-Mart. Many of us who have lived in the South were gravely concerned about what was going to happen to the current site of the existing Wal-Mart. Let it be known that it is now for sale!
I didn't find a price on this website, but it will be available in the summer of 2015. The property includes over 103,000 square feet of luxurious suburban cookie cutter retail space on 16 acres. And apparently our average household income is $110,000 within a 3 mile radius. Are you doing your part to keep this average up?
What do you say? Shall we all pitch in and buy it? I have a great idea for a nail salon!

Jonas Green Park - Where Are the Fish?
Jonas Green Park on the Severn River in Anne Arundel County has been one of our favorite fishing places for a while. However, this year, it seems as if the fish have gone elsewhere.
My son and I have been there three times, with Tuesday being the most recent time. My son also went there on Sunday with his friend.
On Sunday, my son and his friend caught maybe 10 fish over 9 hours. And all were small throwbacks.
On Tuesday, we fished in the evening, so obviously we didn't stay that long, we did stay about 3 hours. Results? 2 fish. One small spot fish and one small white perch. When I say small, I mean bait-sized fish.
Where are all of the fish this year?
The best thing about fishing yesterday was watching the sun set over the Severn River. Oh, did I mention that when we left it was 62°? Are we sure this is July and not October???

Moved in Eldersburg - All About U
I actually posted a month or so ago that All About U Hair Studio closed. I was incorrect, as noted by the 14 responses to the post. For that, I sincerely apologize. I have been on vacation and you know, life gets in the way.
The new location of All About U Hair Studio is 2030 Liberty Road in the Peddler's Square Shopping Center. You know the one with Smoky's and Dairy Queen (or DQ depending on the day of the week). The phone number there has not changed, it is still 410-795-9044.
I did get a kick out of the comments. I'm a bad reporter. Actually, I'm not a reporter. I just do this for fun. I don't get paid for it. And apparently this hair studio is the best in the area and has the best customer service. They certainly have a vocal following! I can appreciate that.
I hope they forgive me and continue to read my blog. I never knew that so many women read my blog!
Since I'm taking down the previous post, I wanted to carry the comments forward:

I'm in full agreement that this blog needs correcting! ALL ABOUT U HAIR STUDIO moved a few blocks away, next to Dairy Queen over Memorial Day Weekend. It is still beautifying those of us who travel from near and far as regular customers. I bring a friend from Catonsville and sometimes another former Marylander, who currently lives in Virginia, joins us for our appointments! It's that good and worth the travel! Please retract your original note as there is nothing but misinformation in it. Eldersburg will remain just as gorgeous as ever! Kathy "YumYum" Anderson 6:55 PM

All About you Hair Studio is not out of business, it relocated. I am a customer that comes from Mt. Airy. I used to live in Catonsville and have been using the same stylist since she worked in a salon in Catonsville. The salon's new location is 2030 Liberty Rd, Sykesville, near the Dairy Queen. A good reporter would have checked their facts prior to printing such a statement. In addition, a good reporter would have retracted their statement as soon as they found out their facts were incorrect. Please retract your statement as I would hate to lose the best hair stylist due to people not receiving correct information. You should also mention they have the best hair stylist and the best customer service. 10:11 AM

Today is the 26th of June. You have had 3 weeks to correct this wrong information. But you haven't! Not very good for folks following your blog. They might even believe that, since you didn't make any effort to check even the most basic of facts about this business, perhaps you're wrong about O'Malley, too! So, when you are blaming yourself when he gets elected, please stop at All About U Hair Studio at 2030 Liberty Road for a new look to cheer you up and maybe some Dairy Queen, too! 12:48 AM

Closed? in Eldersburg - T-Bones & More
Seems like everyone in Eldersburg knows that T-Bone & More is closed. Their service sucked and their food was terrible, except that no one ever went there. However, I came across this little gem while looking through some Carroll County licensing reports online. Perhaps it is not closed after all.
On August 13, 2014, beginning at 10:00 a.m., or as soon thereafter as possible, the Board of
License Commissioners will meet to discuss in open session any pending or new business in the
Reagan Room, (Rm. 003) of the Carroll County Office Building, 225 North Center Street,
Westminster, Maryland 21157.
Case 5766, Class B – Beer, Wine and Liquor license issued to Rachel Jean Louise

Is the restaurant temporarily closed or closed-closed? There is a for lease sign up in front of the store now. However, the "Now serving beer, wine, and alcohol" sign is still there. In Eldersburg, beer and wine are different than alcohol.
So does anyone know what's really going on with this place?

Coming to Eldersburg - Advanced Auto Parts
It seems like just hours ago I posted about how AutoZone is coming to Eldersburg in the Oklahoma Center. As my brother-in-law says, "Whenever an AutoZone goes up, an Advanced Auto Parts goes up right after that." This seems to be the case here in Eldersburg.
This sign went up on the property between Faith Lutheran Church and the Eldersburg Medical Center a few weeks ago and sparked a uproar on Facebook. How dare they tear down these woods and put up another unneeded store when there is already so much unused commercial real estate space in town! Damn the private property rights!
I'm not disagreeing that there are vast amounts of open commercial space in Eldersburg. There is open space in Peddler's Square, Monroe Station, Eldersburg Plaza, and there is the perpetually available space in Carroll Station. And when the Wal-Mart moves, there will be 8 billion square feet of available space on the prime corner lot. And who knows if all of the spaces are leased for the new Eldersburg Commons, formerly the Carrolltown Center. If I'm not mistaken, there is no government agency overseeing or regulating zoning and planning specifically in Eldersburg. The Carroll County Zoning and Planning Commission seems to take a hand's-off approach to planning in Carroll County. That would probably explain the hodge-podge unorganized layout of South Carroll....and the 35 nail salons.
What further amused me were some posts that we need to attend this meeting and try to stop this development. This was an information meeting. This development is already approved. These woods will be torn down. That's no longer up for discussion.
I think it would be great if there were a transparent forum of all of the transactions and applications being submitted for development in the area. I'm sure they are out there somewhere, but it seems that if you're not actively looking for it, it's not going to drop onto your lap.

Coming to Eldersburg - AutoZone
Remember back in March when I posted the rumor that AutoZone was coming to Eldersburg? When I posted it, the information was a rumor, but a reader commented and left a link to a website where AutoZone was looking for bids on the job, so it wasn't really a rumor at all!
So I go away for 2 weeks and when I return I fund that the Oklahoma Center in Eldersburg has been nearly gutted and is being refurbished after the devastating fire that was started in the horrific Jin's Asian Bistro. Much to the delight of millions of Eldersburgers, Jin's seems to be getting replaced by the AutoZone. I could find no information that Jin's was rebuilding or relocating, which causes those same said millions to continue their rejoicing.
I had heard a rumor that the AutoZone was going into the Oklahoma Center, but a busy work life kept me from blogging and investigating. But upon my arrival home from a splendid vacation in the heavily Republican-dominated Southwest Florida Gulf Coast, I find this sign up on the building.
If you zoom in on the picture, you'll see that the AutoZone placard is placed upon the plywood.
I'm not sure when this store will open, but I predict another month or two. I'm glad we are getting an auto parts store that will stay open past 5pm, which is past when most working Americans get home from work.
Hopefully the store will limit the sales of modified diesel exhaust systems to those Carroll County pick-up truck drivers. Rolling coal I think is the expression.

Martin O'Malley Thanks Marylanders for Harboring Illegal Immigrants on Twitter
And for clarification, I don't mean to imply that Marylanders are harboring immigrants on Twitter. I should have noted that he thanked Marylanders via his Twitter account. Crazy English language.
I know the term "Illegal Immigrants" is not an accurate term to describe people that are in this country illegally. The people themselves are not illegal. They are here illegally. But the term Illegal Immigrant has resonance to the intelligent community who are concerned about the flow of people into this country illegally and who are using an ever-increasing amount of financial resources that should be used for Americans.
Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley thanked Marylanders today for illegally harboring children who are entering this country illegally. The issue of unaccompanied minors crossing into the United States has become a lightning rod issue. Send them back without parental support or guidance? Allow them to stay here and become wards of the state? Allow them to return to a country torn by poverty and violent drug cartels who were armed by Obama? Allow them to stay here and suck off the teet of my wallet? I don't think there is a good answer here.
I do know that Martin O'Malley is proud that our money is supporting these future Democratic voters.
What do you think should be done?

2014 Dover 400 Recap
Don't you hate it when you write a blog post and a month later realize you never posted it???
In June (May?) my parents and I took our annual pilgrimage with 90,000 other NASCAR rednecks to the metropolis of Dover, Delaware to watch the Dover 400, or whatever they call it now.
The trip there was uneventful. Other than it was pretty warm. We found our way to our seats up in the Earnhardt section. The row in front of us was empty for a long time. I grew excited thinking about a 4 hour race with clear views of the track and some room to stretch my feat in the crammed stands. Then a whole gaggle of people had to come sit in front of me! Can you believe I had to watch the race with this 20-something golden brown brunette with a ponytail in a tank top and white short-shorts sitting in front of me? I can already sense the empathy coming from the readers.
Oh, and this was on the other side of me. I guess it all balances out, right? Yeah, it doesn't.
The fly-over this year was B-25 Mitchell. I guess Obama still won't let the Air Force fly over events in the United States, but he will allow fly-overs of Baghdad.
The pole position was awarded to this Freightliner soundstage. It acquired a lap speed of 6 mph. The lovely Cassidy Pope sang the National Anthem from this stage.
Here are Joey Logano and Kyle Busch.
Here Brad Kesolowski's pit crew is changing tires....and carrying them away. Each tire weighs about 60 pounds each.
Carlisle Fire Departement's finest are here to take care of business if there is business to take care of.
NASCAR's only female Danica Patrick in the pit. Legend has it that Danica was complaining that the car wasn't handling properly. The crew chief sternly responded that the car was meant to be driven faster. Another time, Danica complained that the car wasn't responding properly, so the crew chief said to try using the pedal on the right.
The first lap of the race, sponsored by Pepsi, UnderArmour, Dunkin Donuts, Toyota, and FedEx.
Fresh out of working the rice paddies of Delaware is this fat white Asian guy.
Who needs hearing protection when you have this cool camouflage hat?
I love this picture.
I think this is Larry the Cable Guy's cousin Larry.
Pop singer Usher was spotted at the race. And all this time I thought Usher was a good looking black dude.
Jimmy Johnson is actually stopped right here. There were two red flags, one for repairing the track. The drivers sat here for about 20 minutes while the track was patched. Throngs of fans pushed their way to the fence to get pictures of their favorite drivers.

Here is our view of the track. Note the casino and hotel in the background collecting tax revenue for the state government coffers. And the cars lined up in pit row. It was a beautiful day. A nice day for racing. And people watching.

This chick had Jimmy Johnson written on her face. And the hearing protection on backwards.

Jimmy Johnson ended up winning the race.....again. I told my parents, who do not like Jimmy Johnson, that when I went to the bathroom, I was dissappointed with the cleanliness of the facilities. I walked around looking for an office to report my complaint. I eventually came to portable office and went inside. There was a lady behind the desk. She looked up and asked if she could help me. I told her that I was displeased with the restroom facilities and wanted to speak with the owner. "Who owns this track?" "Why, Jimmy Johnson owns this track." Blahahahaha!!!! They didn't think it was as funny.
Later, my parents were complaining that Jeff Gordon is so bad at restarts. I mentioned that Jimmy Johnson was really good at restarts. They reluctantly agreed. I then said that perhaps Jeff Gordon should take some classes at the accredited Jimmy Johnson School of Restarts. They also didn't think that was funny.
And that, my friends, is the 2014 Dover 400 in a nutshell.

Jonas Green Park Fishing Report
I forgot to take pictures of this fishing trip, but we fished at Jonas Green Park in Anne Arundel county this past Sunday. And we caught......nothing.
Where are the fish? I walked around and asked other fishermen how they were doing. Some on the bridge said they caught a few small white perch, but that was it.
Another fisherman said that the fishing has been terrible for at least 2-3 weeks.
I commented on Facebook about the lack of fish and someone commented that the crabbing in the upper bay has been terrible, too.
My kids suspect that we are seeing the effects of global warming. I think it's from the impending ice age.
What has been your luck fishing this year?
This is a photo from a previous fishing trip to Jonas Green Park. Still very pretty.

Matapeake State Park Fishing Report
Matapeake is (was?) one of my favorite fishing spots. It's located on the Eastern Shore facing the Chesapeake Bay, just south of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, or for you purists, the William Preston Lane Jr. Memorial Bridge.
The park is the former terminus for the ferry that crossed the Chesapeake Bay from Sandy State Park. After the bridge opened, the area was converted to a park, boat launch, beach, Coast Guard port, and fishing pier.
As I've mentioned previously, my son and I are on a quest to fish in every county in Maryland. Thus far, we'd fished in Carroll, Howard, Montgomery, Frederick, Washington, Cecil, Talbot, Worcester, Baltimore City, and Anne Arundel counties. That's 10 down, 14 to go. Fishing at Matapeake added Queen Anne's County to our list, so 11 down.
When we arrived we noticed that NO ONE was on the fishing pier. That's a bit suspicious. And it should have been our first clue. But I paid my $10 to park and off we went. We went to the far end of the pier, as we should, and cast our rods. We used surf rods with bottom rigs using razor clams. And then we sat.
And sat.
And sat.
The highlight of our fishing trip ended up being watching the passing of the Carnival Pride as it sailed under the Bay Bridge.
Nothing. Not a bite. We fished for four hours before we gave in. Where are the fish?
I think this is Spanish for "Clean up your shit."
As always, at least I got some nice pictures.
