Castro Steps Down

Perhaps the longest ruling dictator of our time, Cuban communist leader Fidel Castro stepped down today with a letter of resignation.

In power since he overthrew the government in 1959, Castro is now 81 years old and hasn't really been in power since last year when he turned over "temporary" power to his brother Raul.
Castro has been the celebrated Cuban leader after winning the election uncontested for dozens of years. What they fail to mention is that no one is allowed to contest him as a leader. If you do, you die.

Castro successfully took Cuba, a tropical island paradise that had some of the world's best hotels and resorts, and turned it into a 1950's style Russian slum. Today, Cuba looks like a snapshot in time. The cars are still from the 1950's and the country is impoverished. Castro, however, is listed as one of the richest people in the world. People tend to get rich when they steal all of the money from the people that they rule.

Castro seized all American assets. Starwood Hotel and Resorts, owner of Sheraton Hotels, in addition to North American Sugar, Bacardi, Colgate-Palmolive, Owens-Illinois, Freeport-McMoran, ITT, and United Fruit Sugar Company.

Hopefully, Castro will die soon and his brother will also be removed from power, elections will be held and a new "leader" from Cuba will appear. Cuba is the largest tropical island in the world. By catering to the world's rich and elite, Cuba could be one of the leading vacation destinations in the world, serving beach goers and cruise lines.

If it were not for Castro, other current tropical destinations would never have become popular. These include the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, and Bermuda. Before Castro, these were just poor islands with little to offer.

With money flowing in from all over the world, Cuba's impoverished could be lifted out of destitution and get cars that are at least made in the 1980's - thirty years better than what they're driving now.

Cuba is a country that the world wants to see. A country that the world wants to visit and learn. Castro has done nothing but repress its people all in the name of power for himself and pillage for his own personal wealth. It's a shame that the people of Cuba did not revolt against this dictator.

Hopefully now that he's almost dead, Cuba can return to a better time.
